pgs. 2 thru 10 - Vol. I - Attenborough

     NOTE. - The ancient parish of Attenborough contains the townships of Chilwell and Toton.
     The Registers previous to 1813 may be said to be contained in three volumes.  There are, however, two smaller volumes which appear to be duplicates for the periods which they comprise.
     Vol. I consists of 45 leaves of parchment, measuring 18 inches by 6 inches, and contains Baptisms, Marriages and Burials from the year 1560 to 1643, in the parish of Adenburg, in the county of Nottingham, Diocese of York, 1560; rebound in leather in the original old backs at the request of Rev. J. Altham, Curate, and at the expense of the parish, MDCCCXLII.
     It contains the Ba;ptismal Register of General Ireton and his two brothers.  They run as follows: -
     "Henricus Jreton infant Germain Jreton baptizat fruit 3° die mensis Novembris a° 1611."
     "Matheus Ireton, infant Germain Jreton baptizat fruit in festo s'cti (sancti_ . . . . . "
     "Thomas Ireton, infant Germain Jreton, armig., batiz. fruit 4° die Maij a° 1619."
     Vol. II consists of 58 leaves of parchment, measuring 13 inches by 7 inches, and is an old Register of the names (surnames) of persons Baptized, Married, and Buried in the parish of Adenburgh, alias Attenborough, in the county of Nottingham and Diocese of York, 1653-1777, and has every appearance of having been rebound at same time as Vol. I.
     Vol. IIA is a small parchment volume to inches by 6 inches, rebound in vellum in May 1896, containing mixed entries 1678-1712.  The number of leaves contained is 25.
     There is also a small volume 6 inches by 7½ inches, rebound in boards in 1842, which contains mixed entries from 1696-1726.
     Vol. III contains Baptisms, Marriages and Burials from 1777 to 1812.
     It consists of 53 pages of parchment and 37 pages of paper, the last two of which are blank, containing the Marriages from 1754-1812 in accordance with Lord Hardwicke's Act.  It was rebound at the request of the Rev. J. Altham and at the expense of the NOTTS. - VI.

parish in 1842.  In the beginning is set out a brief History of the Church of Attenborough-cum-Bramcote, signed by the Rev. W. H. Davison, minister resident Bramcote 1788.
     Also a terrier and account of house, glebe lands, tythes, and all other ecclesiastical dues, etc., June 10, 1777, likewise signed by Rev. W. H. Davison, minister resident Bramcote, 1788.
     W. H. Davison and his Churchwardens and several principal inhabitants.
     These extracts were made, by permission of the Rev. Frncis H. Roughton, vicar of Bramcote-cum-Attenborough, by Mr. George Fellows and Rev. J. Standish.
     In these transcripts f. w. k. means frame work knitter, Ch. is used for Chilwell, and T. for Toton.
