Subject: Undelivered discharge certificates
1. This office has in its files six thousand six
hundred discharge certificates which have been held for many
months awaiting the receipt of proper post-office addresses
to enable their return to the owners.
2. These discharge certificates were originally sent in
by ex-service men in support of their claims for the $60.00
bonus, additional travel pay, or arrears in pay, and in many
cases checks in full settlement of the claims re attached to
the discharge certificate so held.
3. The enclosed list, giving names of the owners,
organizations to which assigned, and in some cases their
serial numbers, has been prepared and is sent out in a final
effort to notify the men whose names are listed thereon that
their discharge certificates are being held by this office
and that same will be forwarded to any address designated by
them immediately upon presentation of sufficient data to
permit of proper identification.
4. In submitting requests of the delivery of these
discharge certificates, it is essential that the forwarding
instructions include the following information, and it is
suggested that they take the following form:
