Alabama Woman Killed While In Bed.
HAYNEVILLE, Ala., January 26. -
While Emma Bryant was lying in her bed playing with
her infant babe, a shot was fired from the outside, killing
her instantly. She was married year ago and lived only
two days with her husband. He is held in jail for the
murder. Evidence only circumstantial.
One of Alabama's Most Distinguished Citizens Passes Away.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. February 2 - Hon. N. H. R. Dawson
died at his home in Selma at an early hour yesterday
morning. He had been one of the most distinguished
figures in Alabama for many years. He was commissioner
of education under Mr. Cleveland's first
administration. He had held many positions of trust
and honor in this state and was a splendid gentleman of the
old school. He was born in Charleston, and was a
descendant of General Paul Hamilton, secretary of the
navy in 1812 and of several early colonial governors of
South Carolina. He was also a brother-in-law of
President Lincoln, their wives being sisters.
