STARTLING FACTS,
RELATIVE TO SLAVERY AT THE PRESENT TIME.

---------------

THERE are now, in various parts of the world, SEVEN AND A HALF MILLIONS of our fellow-creatures in SLAVERY!
Four Hundred Thousand human beings are annually torn from their homes and friends.  Nearly THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND of this mighty host perish by fire and sword in their capture, or from privation and suffering.  The remainder are transported over the wide sea, sold by public auction to be the highest bidder, and consigned to endless slavery; husbands, wives, and families being separated from each other, probably never to meet again in this world.
Upwards of three millions of slaves are held in the United States of America.  They are kept in the greatest ignorance, and subjected to the most cruel treatment in that professing Christian country, ever boasting of its freedom!

The imagination cannot picture a system which could produce more evil fruit than negro slavery has produced, and is producing, wherever its horrid aspect is exhibited.  Does it not outrage every human right - crush every lofty aspiration - rupture every lovely tie?  It is not, in a word, the total subversion of the law of right for the lawless principle of force?  How long shall its barbarities continue to affright, and its pollutions sicken, the soul?
Seven and a half millions of our fellow-creatures are now suffering from its unparalled atrocities; - held as goods and chattels; the property of other human beings; transferred from one owner to another, like beasts that perish.  The contemplation is as awful as it is true.
Reader, hast thou any sympathy and Christian feeling for these millions of thy brethren and sisters in cruel bonds?  Consider speedily what thou canst do to hasten their freedom.
