AUCTIONING ADVERTISEMENTS.

"AUCTION SALES.
"Slaves!     Slaves!     Slaves!

"BY BEARD, CALHOUN, & Co.  J. A. Beard, Auctioneer.
"Thursday, May 10th, 1849, will be sold at auction, at 12 o'clock, at Banks' Arcade, 15 SLAVES, comprising cooks, washers, ironers, nurses, labourers, field-hands, mechanics.
"Full particulars of each Slave will be given at the sale.

"Credit Sale of choice Servants.

"Thursday, 10th May, 1849, at 12 o'clock, at Banks' Arcade, will be sold at auction, the following valuable servants, belonging to a family in the city, namely: - MARY, aged 15½ years, a valuable house-girl, nurse, and excellent serving-girl.  SOPHIA, aged 20 years, a washer, ironer, American cook, and superior house-servant.  JOHN, aged 35 years, an excellent ostler and driver.
Terms: - One-fourth cash, balance in a note, payable the 1st December, 1849, endorsed to the satisfaction of the vender, with interest at 6 per cent, per annum from date till paid.
"Also, the negro man HARRISON, aged about 30 years, a first-rate finishing plasterer.
"Terms: - One-fourth cash; balance six and twelve months' credit, for notes endorsed to the satisfaction of the vender, bearing mortgage on the property, with 6 per cent, interest from date to maturity.  Should any note not be paid promptly, to bear interest at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum.
"The above Slaves are fully guaranteed against the vices and maladies prescribed by law. " - New Orleans Paper, 1849.
Advertisements, similar to the above, both of purchasers and venders of men, women, and children, abound in the most respectable newspapers in the Slave States of America; and heart-rending scenes, arising from the separation of family ties, are of daily occurrence.  What a scandal upon a professedly civilized Christian country!
