"Thursday, May 10th, 1849, will be sold at auction, at
12 o'clock, at Banks' Arcade, 15 SLAVES, comprising
cooks, washers, ironers, nurses, labourers, field-hands,
mechanics.
"Full particulars of each Slave will be given at the
sale.
"Credit Sale of
choice Servants.
"Thursday, 10th May, 1849, at 12 o'clock, at Banks'
Arcade, will be sold at auction, the following valuable
servants, belonging to a family in the city, namely: -
MARY, aged 15½
years, a valuable house-girl, nurse, and excellent
serving-girl. SOPHIA, aged 20 years, a
washer, ironer, American cook, and superior
house-servant. JOHN, aged 35 years, an
excellent ostler and driver.
Terms: - One-fourth cash, balance in a note,
payable the 1st December, 1849, endorsed to the
satisfaction of the vender, with interest at 6 per cent,
per annum from date till paid.
"Also, the negro man HARRISON, aged about 30
years, a first-rate finishing plasterer.
"Terms: - One-fourth cash; balance six and
twelve months' credit, for notes endorsed to the
satisfaction of the vender, bearing mortgage on the
property, with 6 per cent, interest from date to
maturity. Should any note not be paid promptly, to
bear interest at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum.
"The above Slaves are fully guaranteed against the
vices and maladies prescribed by law. " - New Orleans

Advertisements, similar to the above, both of
purchasers and venders of men, women, and children,
abound in the most respectable newspapers in the Slave
States of America; and heart-rending scenes, arising
from the separation of family ties, are of daily
occurrence. What a scandal upon a professedly
civilized Christian country!
