FATAL POWDER EXPLOSION AT HAZARDVILLE
About two tons of powder in one of the new press mills of the Hazard powders manufacturing company at Hazardville exploded at the quarter before 8, yesterday morning, completely destroying the building and killing three men who were at work within - Mr. Richards, a very intelligent powder-maker, from England, and John Lemare and Joseph Bolac, French Canadians, besides a horse which Lemare had just driven to the house.  Richards and Bolac were men about 45 years old, and had large families, while Lemare was about 35 and leaves a wife.  The bodies of all three were torn to atoms and scattered about to a distance of 400 feet, the trees of the surrounding woods being also torn up and shattered.  The loss to the company is $10,000; of course uninsured.  The mill was a strongly built one-story structure, 20 by 30 feet, and scarcely an atom of it remains on its former site.  Lemare and Bolac had policies on their lives of $1000 each in the Travelers' insurance company of Hartford.
