Honorable Charity
More than one thousand insane persons live at this time in
Connecticut. A society for the mitigation of their calamity and
sufferings, denominated the “Society for the relief of the
Insane,” has recently been organized at Middletown in that
state, and subscriptions nearly to the amount of 15,000 dollars
raised for it. The legislature also appropriate 5,000 dollars
for the institution; and should it eventually be fixed at
Hartford, individuals are pledged to raise 4,000 additional.
Munificence like this reflects honor on the people of
Connecticut, and on human nature itself. – Frank. Gaz. |
