Welcome to
Cook County, Illinois
History & Genealogy

Whoa!!!
It looks like I am taking on a new County!
My interest in Cook County is that my father and his family lived there.  My grandmother, Maria Hernandez Becerra is buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
My Grandfather, Henry (Genaro) Becerra worked for the railroad and ended up in Radnor, Peoria Co., Illinois living in various towns along the way due to his occupation.
My own history is in this county and the history of my parents and of my grandparents and my great-grandparents. (Some of them)
I will be adding things as I find them.

Happy Hunting...
Sharon Wick

Cook County was created on January 15, 1831 out of Putnam County by an act of the Illinois State Legislature. It was the 54th county established in Illinois and was named after Daniel Cook, one of the earliest and youngest statesmen in Illinois history, who served as the second U.S. Representative from Illinois and the first Attorney General of the State of Illinois. Shortly thereafter, in 1839, DuPage County was carved out of Cook County.
