Emery Cemetery The Emery Cemetery was started in 1865 with the death of Mary J. Emery, daughter of Joseph W. and Francis A. Emery. The mourners were making their to the final resting place of seventeen year old Mary in the Wrights Grove (or Ridge) Cemetery in Maroa Twp. some __ miles away, when the horses broke down. The wagons were ankle deep in mud. Joseph Emery, great grandfather of Lauren Emery who furnished this ____, said "let's bury her on the knell." And since this was as far as they would get, the first grave was made. It was made a public cemetery in 1899 when the land was deeded to the trustees, W. W. Heft and N. S. Heft. The cemetery, at the time the inscriptions were taken, was in very poor condition. A delapedated board fence left no opening for intering and the ____ were high. Since this time, in the fall of 1967, Lauren Emery, by contacting descendants of those buried there, raised funds to install a new _______fence. This replaced the early board fence which was built in 1920.
