8779.  Samuel S. Wood, b. July 11, 1822, in Oldham Co., Ky., d. Mar. 12, 1906, at Lovington, Ill., came with his parents to Lovington, Ill., in 1833, among the earliest settlers, m. (1) Oct. 1, 1849, Alice Howell, who d. Nov. 1, 1856, the dau. of David Howell, one of the early settlers of the county; (2) Aug. 24, 1858, Lucy Helen Dunscomb, who d. Feb. 14, 1901, aged 71 years, the dau. of Oren H. Dunscomb, b. in Vt.  Their children are, William O., Edgar F., Austin G., Elmer C., Dora Wacaser, and Ollie Wacaser.  One child was b. of his first marriage.  Samuel S. Wood, the son of William Wood, who d. May 9, 1859, at Lovington, Ill., and his wife, Elizabeth Grove, who d. May 2, 1859, the dau of John Grove, of German parentage, a captain in the Revolutionary War, and who moved from Philadelphia to North Carolina.
