FORTY-NINTH INFANTRY REGIMENT.
- COL. WM. R. MORRISON

     This regiment was organized at Camp Butler, Ill., Dec. 31st, 1861, by Col. Wm. R. Morrison.  Third of February, '62, it was ordered to Cairo, and on the eighth of the same month moved to Fort Henry, and was assigned to the Third Brigade, McClermand's Division; 11th, moved to Fort Donaldson, and on the 13th engaged
