Note: I particularly like this view of the Peoria County Courthouse
because my grandmother, Madge (Love) Montgomery worked in the domed building to
the right of it.
It was the First National Bank Building. She worked as a legal
secretary for a law firm by the name of Black, Black & Borden for 50
years, retiring in 1967.
She visited the Peoria County Courthouse often in search of anything
that would help court cases.
There was the Walgreen's Drug store on the first floor of the building
and a Magazine stand that was ran by a blind man. He could tell
what denomination of monies by the feel of it and most people were very
honest with him. I really never heard of anyone trying to cheat
him.
This picture brings back lots of memories of me and my children visiting
grandma while she worked. She is the reason that I love to type,
and collect all kinds of pens and stationary products. She is the
reason I got into genealogy research. She had started the search
of our family tree way before I she passed away in 1968 and I didn't start
until 1981.
She was researching our connection to the Family of Wyatt Earp. My
great great grandmother's name was Milly Ann Earp.
