JOHN G. IRVING was born
in 1852 in Pike county and is a son of CHristopher
and Mary Irving, the former a native of Scotland and
the latter of England; they came to America and were
married in Massachusetts and emigrated to Illinois in
early days. In 1878 Mr. I. married Miss
Ida M. Newton, who was born in Morgan county,
Illinois, in 1859; they have one child. Mr. I.
has been engaged in farming since he was of
age. Mrs. I. is a member of the
Christian Church. |
R. M. IRVING,
farmer and stock dealer, was born Sept. 25, 1848, in
Pike Co., Ill., and is the son of Christopher and
Mary Irving; at the age of 15 R. M. commenced
doing business for himself, engaging in farming and
finally becoming a stock-shipper. When he and his
brother commenced in the cattle business they borrowed
$200 and bought calves, and from the start kept
increasing their number until now he is shipping about
200 head a year. He and his brother own a fine farm in
280 acres. |
