HENRY SPEARS, a successful farmer residing on section 24, Rose Township, Shelby County, was born in Washington County, Ohio, Apr. 19, 1817.  His father, Annis Spears, was a native of Main and his mother, Hannah Ladd, was a native of Washington County, Ohio.  They came to Shelby County, Ill. in 1857, and settled north of Shelbyville, for one year, and then came to Rose Township, where they made their permanent home.  The father died Jan. 14, 1885, and the mother passed away Mar. 9, 1883.  In their family of ten children our subject was the seventh.
He of whom we write came to Shelby County with his father when he was ten years old, and has thus been a resident of this county since 1857.  Aug. 29, 1872, was his wedding day, and he was then united with Miss Rebecca Warner, a daughter of Aaron and Hannah (Kerchner) Warner. They came from Pickaway County, Ohio, to this county in 1871, and are still residents of this county.
Mrs. Spears first saw the light in Pickaway County, Ohio, Dec. 31, 1851.  She is now the mother of three children - Charles H., Estella, and AetnaMr. and Mrs. Spears are most earnest and efficient members of the Methodist Episcopal Church in which this gentleman takes an active part.  He has held the office of Collector for three terms, and in his politics espouses the cause of the Republican party.  He has erected good buildings upon his farm and is the owner of one hundred sixty acres of rich and arable soil.  His enterprise and energy combined with pluck, push and perseverance have made him a successful farmer and he is universally esteemed.
