HISTORY

     ESTILL COUNTY  is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It was formed in 1808. Its county seat is Irvine, Kentucky. Formed in 1808, the county is named after Captain James Estill, a Kentucky militia officer who was killed by Indians in the Battle of Little Mountain near Mt. Sterling during the American Revolutionary War. It is a prohibition or dry county.
