CHAPTER VII.

HISTORY OF THE METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH OF LEEDS.

Pg. 254 -

Rev. Jesse Lee, through whose efforts of Methodism was established in New England, preached in Littleborough, now the town of Leeds, Dec. 23, 1794.  The service of that date was held in a private house, the home of Mr. Lane.  The house was crowded and the power of God was clearly felt in their midst.
The town of Leeds was placed upon the Readfield circuit as early as 1795; later it was made a part of Monmouth circuit and was regularly visited by the preachers.
A class was formed about 1795.  The progress of Methodism from this early period until 1838 is not known as no records are preserved, if there were any kept, to give its history during these years.
