BROWN, Benjamin, M. D., a surgeon in the
Navy during the Revolution, and a Representative from Lincoln
Dist., Maine, then part of Massachusetts, in the 14th Congress,
died Sept. 17 at Waldoboro, Maine, age 74. (Oct. 27 - year to be

Launch of a Steamer.
WALDOBORO, Me., Aug. 29 - A large
crowd of people, estimated at one thousand, assembled today at the
"head of the pond," Jefferson, ten miles north of here, to witness
the launching of the new side while steamer "Lady of the Lake."
The launch was in every respect successful. The steamer is
built and owned by parties in Jefferson, Damariscotta and
Nobleboro'. She is to be commanded by Capt. Wm. Varnan of
Nobleboro' and is designed to run in connection with the Knox
and Lincoln Railroad from Nobleboro' to Jefferson, one of the best
summer resorts in Maine. She is seventy-five feet long,
breadth twenty feet, depth four feet, draws about two feet and a
half of water and is fifty-three tons, old measurement. |
