following Roll of Honor, prepared in this office by Brevet
Brigadier General Alex J. Perry, quartermaster United
States army, containing the record of 23,016 deceased Union
soldiers interred in the national cemeteries at MEMPHIS,
TENNESSEE, AND CHALMETTE, (near New Orleans,) LOUISIANA,
is published by authority of the Secretary of War for the
information of their surviving friends and comrades.

GENERAL: I
have the honor to transmit herewith, for publication,
records of deceased Union soldiers interred in the national
cemeteries at Memphis, Tennessee, and Chalmette, Louisiana.
(The records of the latter cemetery are additional to those
published in Roll of Honor No. 7.)
The within Roll of Honor records the burial places of
23,016 deceased Union soldiers, whose names, as far as
known, are alphabetically arranged, with a full index,
according to the places of interment, and with a brief
preface to each list, giving a short history of the cemetery
in which they are interred.
