GENERAL DEATH MARRIAGE COURT XXXXXX

A gentleman from Belvidere, N. J., informs the New York Tribune that Abner Parke, who resides near New Hampton, Warren county, was arrested on Thursday, 30th Nov., and was taken to Belvidere to undergo an examination on a charge for the murder of his brother John Parke and the Castner family.  The manner and conversation of Parke since the trial of Carter has been such as to fasten suspicion upon him.

THE WARREN TRAGEDY, the public will be interested to learn, ____ now likely to be fully revealed.  The trial of Peter Parke, indicted as one of the actors in the wholesale butchery, terminated at Belvidere on Friday in a verdict of guilty.  The case was committed after a long and patient interrogation? and full argument in a clear and able charge by Judge Nevius, and the jury was only out about five hours.  The verdict is, we hear, in perfect accordance with public sentiment in Warren county.  Thus two of the murderers, Joseph Carter, Jr. and Peter Parke, his cousin, are identified and stand committed.  Abner Parke, either the father or the uncle of Peter, was tried immediately before on one indictment, and acquitted by the jury, though circumstances were strongly against him, in consequence of an alibi insisted on by some witnesses - his daughters, we believe - from his own family.  Since that acquittal, farther testimony has been obtained, and he has been brought up and charged under one of the other indictments - fortunately the Grand Jury found an indictment against each of the prisoners for each of the four persons murdered - so that it is believed his participation in the dreadful tragedy will yet be fully established.  He will be tried at the February term - some three weeks hence - Newark Daily Advertiser

Abner Parke, who was acquitted on the second indictment for being concerned in the the murder of the Castner family in Warren County, was admitted to bail on the rendition of the verdict, and bound over to answer to answer to the two remaining indictments, in the sum of $5,000 on each of them with his brother David Parke.  He left Belvidere for his home, on Sunday morning.  The Apollo says he "jested gaily and laughed during Saturday afternoon, while the jury were busy with the question of his guilt or innocence of the fearful crime charged upon him."

The long-pending trial of Abner Parke, in the Warren county (New Jersey) Circuit, on the second indictment for being concerned in murder of the Castner family, terminated on Saturday night in a verdict of acquittal.  The trial lasted about four weeks.  He was once before tried for the murder of one of the same family, and acquitted after a trial of about the same duration.  Two or three other indictments are still pending against him, but we presume the fellow has been tried enough - at least for the county, which has to pay the expense.
