FRANKLIN, 1784.*

This small township embraced only the
town plat of Chambersburg and seven
tracts of land adjacent thereto,
containing about 1,150 acres. The
borough was erected in 1803. The
growth of the borough continued and
eventually took in all of the territory
of Franklin Township. Thus the
eventually took in all of the territory
of Franklin Township. Thus the
township became extinct. This
occurred about 1837 - at least the name
of the township appears upon the court
records up to that date when all further
mention of it ceases. The account,
therefore, of early settlers of the
township appears in the history of
Chambersburg, Chapter XIX.
