JOSEPH
WICK - See Buffalo Co., Wisconsin,
who is successfully engaged in the cheese
manufacturing industry in Alma township
Buffalo County, was born in Switzerland,
June 5, 1859, son of Franz Carl and
Katherine (Wagner) Wick The parents were
born and married in Switzerland, where they
spent their lives. They had nine
children, some of whom are now deceased.
Those living are the subject of this sketch,
and John, Mary, Carl, Caroline and
Josephine, who are residing in
Switzerland. Joseph Wick spent
his early years in Switzerland. He
came to the United States in 1882, first
settling in Monroe, Wisconsin. At the
age of 24 year he married and rented a farm
near Monroe, Green county, Wisconsin, where
he lived for three years. He then
moved to Turtle Lake, Wisconsin, where he
carried on agricultural operations for 24
years, at the end of which time he moved to
Buffalo county. Here he has since been
engaged in the cheese manufacturing
business, operating a factory in section 11,
Alma township. He has not only been
successful in a financial way, but has
gained an enviable reputation as an expert
in his line of industry, having taken first
and second prizes at La Crosse, also prizes
at Mondovi County Fair, the Milwaukee State
Fair for two years and the first prize at
the St. Paul State Fair in 1914.
Mr. Wick served a road master at Turtle
Lake for 15 years and was also a school
director. He was married in July,
1884, to Alice Orya who was born in
Polk Co., Minn., Sept. 26, 1868, daughter of
John and Emily Orya. Her parent
and their only other child, Luella
are now deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Wick
have ten children, all living:
Catherine, born Oct. 20, 1884, who is
the wife of Peter Plyner; Emily, born
May 16, 1866, who married Frank McGee;
John, born Dec. 12, 1887, who married
Emelia Winger; Marguerite, born Oct.
28, 1890, who is the wife of Ernest Adam;
Alice, born July 31, 1893, who married
Otto Bender; Mary born May 23, 1896,
who married George Bauhman; Sarah
born Aug. 31, 1899, who married Otto
Loewenhagen; Ida, born Feb. 24, 1901;
Francis, born Apr. 5, 1903; and
Clayton, born Mar. 29, 1905. The
three last mentioned are unmarried.
