SECOND REGIMENT INFANTRY.

     THE Second Connecticut Regiment Infantry (3 months) was, like the First, recruited from the volunteer militia.  It left New Haven for Washington, May 10, 1861, numbering seven hundred and eighty (780) men.  They were armed with Sharps' Rifles, with the exception of two companies which were armed with United States Springfield muskets.  Colonel Alfred H. Terry,  of New Haven, was placed in command of the regiment.  He was, for a number of years, connected with the State military organization, and was one of the most efficient and accomplished officers in the service, having devoted much time and attention to military matters, both in this country and in Europe.  At the commencement of the war he was Colonel of the Second Regiment, State Volunteer Militia, and was very popular with those under his command.  The regiment was present at the battle of Bull Run, where both officers and men acquitted themselves with honor.  This regiment was mustered out of service on the 7th day of August, 1861, at New Haven, Conn.
