AXTELL, CHARLES P., firm of
Ray & Axtell, dry goods, hosiery, notions, etc., west
side of square; born Jan. 5, 1845, in Wyoming Co., N. Y.; in
1866, came to Wisconsin; in 1869, came to Newton, Iowa;
first was employed by V. W. Skiff & Co.; in 1876, commenced
their present business. Married Ada H. Miller,
Oct. 17, 1872; she was born in 1847, in Muscatine Co., Iowa;
have one child - Grace A., born Jan. 28, 1876.
Members of M. E. Church; Republican.

AXTELL, THOMAS O., firm of
Silas Axtell & Co., living and sale stable on Vine
street; he was born June 9, 1857, in Newton, Iowa; in 1868,
commenced their present business; they own their stables and
house adjoining. His father was born May, 1824, in
Cleveland, Ohio, and removed to Jasper Co., Iowa, in 1856
his mother was born in 1825, in Morristown, N. J., and died
in Newton, Jan. 9, 1858. Republican.
