BULFINCH†
-------------------------
     * Received from Alva S. Wood.
     †
The Bulfinch family of Woburn, of Lynn and of Waldoboro, Me., are descended from John Bulfinch of Boston, a ship-joiner by trade, who married, first Elizabeth Bumstead of Boston, Nov. 3, 1726, and, second, Mary Peabody of Boxford, May 10, 1739.  He died abou 1774, and his son John, born July 17, 1727, also a ship-joiner, married anna Breed of Boston, Sept. 10, 1754.  He died in Lynn, Feb. 4, 1812.  His son, Jeremiah, born in Boston, in 1759, died in Maine, Nov. 19, 1846.  He married, first, July 22, 1787, Rebecca Cheever (nee Johnson), and second, March 19, 1807, Hannah Flint (nee Newhall).  He had fourteen children, two of whom, John and Henry, were graduated at Harvard, and the seventh, Amos Breed (born in Lynn, Mar. 25, 1799), married, June, 1821, Hannah Coombs, daughter of Nicholas and Hannah (Miller) Coombs, of Marblehead.  She was born Sept. 2, 1802, and died Dec. 20, 1883.  They had issue born in Lynn: (r) Henry, born May 14, 1822; (2) Susan, born Oct. 9, 1823; (3) Julia Ann, orn June 23, 1825; (4) Maria, born July 7, 1828; (5) Lucinda, born Aug. 11, 1831, died Apr. 2, 1878.  The births of four other children are published in Part I., where the births of Charles, given as April 8, 1841, should read, April 8, 1839.
The emigrant ancestor is believed to be the John Bulfinch, referred to by Savage, who settled in Salem as early as 1640.  He returned to England and died at Chatham, Kent County, about 1680.  Administration on his estate in this country was granted to his daughter, Katherine Bell, widow of Abraham Bell of Charlestown - Middlesex County Court Records, Vol. II, Page 334.

I have in manuscript considerable genealogical data on the Bulfinch family and should be pleased to corresond with any of that name who are interested in their family history.
