20, - Lucy Irwin, aged 2 1/2 years, died here of
diphtheria.
-- BELL - Denton, Tex., Nov. 19 - The 13 months
old baby of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Bell died this
morning.
-- PRESCOTT - Marshall, Tex., Nov. 19 - Mrs.
Norah E. Prescott died at her home in the northern
portion of the county today.
-- BOYD - Sherman, Tex., Nov. 20 - A card from
W. L. Boyd of this city announces the death of his
brother, W. P. Boyd, at Arcola, Ill.
-- SHOEMAKER - Decatur, Tex., Nov. 20 - Capt.
A. H. Shoemaker, one of the pioneer settlers of this
county, died here to-day in his eightieth year.
-- COX - Sherman Tex., Nov. 20. S. B.
Cox of this city is in receipt of a telegram from
Cynthiana, Ky., announcing the death of his mother,
Mrs. A. A. Cox.
-- COTHER - Sherman, Tex., Nov. 20 - J. R. Cother,
who formerly resided here, died at Fort Wroth yesterday,
his body was brought here for interment to-day.
-- HOUSTON - Lancaster, Tex., Nov. 20 - H. W.
Huston, living five miles northwest of Lancaster, a
pioneer of Dallas county, formerly of Tennessee, died on
Nov. 18.
-- UMPHRESS, - Sherman, Tex., Nov. 21. - Mrs.
D. Umphress of Sandusky, Grayson county, died
yesterday afternoon after two days' illness. Her
body was shipped to Texarkana to-day for burial.
-- FRAZIER - Weatherford, Tex., Nov. 20 - Mrs.
C. E. Frazier, wife of Dr. C. E. Frazier, who
recently moved to this place form Chicago, Ill., died at
their home in this city at 10 o'clock a.m. to-day.
-- SMITH - Corsicana, Tex., Nov. 20 - Wm.
Smith, for eighteen years section foreman on the
Cotton Belt road, died at his home in this city after a
long illness. He was buried to-day at Oakwood
cemetery.
-- RALSTON - Waxahachie, Tex., Nov. 19 - At 11:40
p.m. John Ralston, Sr., aged 70 years, died.
Mr. Ralston was a native of Ashland county, Ohio,
moved to Indiana when a young man and latterly to
Mississippi, from which state he moved to Texas in 1878.
-- FORD - Tyler, Tex., Nov. 20 - Mr. John F.
Ford, an early settler of this county, was found
dead in bed yesterday morning at the residence of his
son-in-law, Judge Gordon Russell. When
Mr. Ford retired on Saturday night, to all
appearances he was in the best of health. He was
82 years of age and was a remarkably well-preserved man
for his years. He was buried yesterday afternoon
with Masonic honors.
-- REEVES - Clarksville, Red River Co., Tex.,
Nov. 21. - Judge Douglass Reeves, one of the
oldest and most prominent republicans in this portion of
Texas, died here last night. He was register in
the bankruptcy just after the war. He was 71 years
old, and had been in bad health for a long time.
-- DEY - Terrell, Tex., Nov. 21 - S. L. Dey,
Sr., aged 81 years, died here this morning of
neuralgia of the heart.

REV. SARTWELL DEAD Was a Native Texan and a
Lending Divine of the Episcopal Church.
Yesterday morning at the residence of his father,
Mr. W. L. Sartwell, Comanche, Tex., the Rev.
William Dinsmore Sartwell passed away. He was
born in Matagorda, in this state, and was the second
native born Texan to enter he Episcopal church ministry.
He was educated at Trinity college, Hartford, Conn., and
at the general theological seminary, New York. He
was ordained to the priesthood by the late Bishop Gregg
of Texas and was rector of St. Paul church. Waco,
a magnificent church, being erected in his time; also
rector of Calvary church, Sedalia, Mo., where he had
many friends. Also, he was rector of St. Andrew's
church, Fort Worth; St. Luke's, Jackson, Tenn.; St.
John's church, Corsicana; St. Matthew's cathedral,
Dallas, was for a time under his supervision. On
account of his falling health his bishop gave him a
field of labor in the northwestern part of the state,
where he did good work and laid foundations for others
to build on.
In speaking of him, Rev. E. Wickens said last
night:
"Mr. Sartell was a ripe scholar and a most
refined Christian gentleman. The last few years of
his life were clouded by severe sickness, but now he
rests in peace and his works do follow him."

-- TERRY - W. L. Terry of Cleburne, 60, died
Thursday morning at the Texas & Pacific station.
Mr. Terry, whose home is in Cleburne, was on his
way from that city to Witchita Falls to visit a son and
was boarding a Fort Worth & Denver train when he fell
dead. The remains are being held at the Fort Worth
Undertaking Company awaiting orders from relatives.
-- ANDERSON - The body of Willie May Anderson,
3, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Anderson
of Hi-Mount, who died of spinal meningitis Wednesday
afternoon at 2:30, was sent by the Fort Worth
Undertaking Company to Waco Wednesday night for burial.
-- RAMBO - The funeral of Mrs. Arzella Rambo,
who died at her home, 1225 Josephine street, Wednesday
morning, was held Thursday morning from the residence at
10 o'clock. Interment took place in Greenwood
cemetery.
-- EASTMAN - Henry Eastman, 11, died at the home
of his parents Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Eastman, West
Dallas, on Wednesday. The child was the nephew of
Mrs. J. W. Poe, 523 Samuels Avenue.
-- McNATT - Evelyn McNatt, 5, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert McNatt, 1302 Presidio street, died
Wednesday at the home of per parents of spinal
meningitis after a brief illness. The funeral was
held Thursday afternoon from the family residence at
2:30. Interment took place in Oakwood cemetery.
-- FIELD - Mrs. Minnie A. Field, 48, wife of
C. R. Field, died Wednesday afternoon at the family
residence, 520 Kentucky avenue, after a prolonged
illness. The deceased leaves besides a husband,
six children as follows: Mulkey, Todd, Minnie
Ward, Rosetta, Edward and Annis Field. Mrs.
Field was the daughter of Stephen Mulkey and
is survived by two sisters, Mrs. George Ward and
MRs. John M. Furman; two brothers, T. P.
and Frank Mulkey. She was a member of the
Eastern Star. The funeral will be held Friday
morning at 10 o'clock from the Mulkey Memorial
Methodist Church. Interment will take place in
Oakwood cemetery. The field family lived in San
Angelo for a number of years and moved to Fort Worth
three years ago, making their home here since that time.
-- RENFRO - Mrs. Sadie Renfro, 28, died shortly
before midnight Wednesday. She was the wife of
J. F. Renfro and is survived by three small
children. An infant son of the couple died
just two weeks ago and it is thought that the death of
the child hastened that of the mother. The funeral
was held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 from the Holy Name
Catholic Church, at Terrell and New York Avenues.
Interment took place in Greenwood Cemetery.
-- QUINEM - The funeral of Charles J. Quinem,
infant son of Lee Quinem, who died at the
family residence in HiMount, took place Wednesday
afternoon with interment in Oakwood cemetery.
-- RICH - The 2 year old infant of Fletcher Ritch,
who lives on the Saginaw road six miles north of Fort
Worth, died Wednesday afternoon of spinal meningitis.
The funeral was conducted Thursday afternoon.

W. T. BUCKALEW, Dies
William Thomas Buckalew, 69 years old, died
Saturday at his residence, 1512 St. Louis street.
He is survived by three sons, S. J. Jr., W. D.
and F. K. Buckalew, all of Dallas; three sisters,
Mrs. George M. Page and Mrs. M. E. Holtzheuser
of Dallas and Mrs. W. P. Fulton of Fort Worth,
and two brothers, S. J. and R. J. Buckalew of
Dallas. The body was sent to Blooming Grove
Saturday night for burial. |

Celina, Dies at 87

CELINA, Texas, June 8, - Funeral services were
held Tuesday at the Celina Church of Christ for Mrs.
B. F. Gearhart, 87 pioneer resident of the Celina
community, who died Monday at the home of her son W.
J. Gearhart. Burial was in the Celina
Cemetery.
Mrs. Gearhart
was born Nov. 12, 1860, near Celina, the daughter of
Richard and Louisa Ewing O'Brien. She is
survived by five sons, W. J. Gearhart and J.
A. Gearhart of Celina, H. R. Gearing of
Tioga. Ben F. Gearhart of Maria and Terry
of Celina; a sister Mrs. E. J. Atkins of Celina;
five brothers, Will O'Brien, B. F. O'Brien, Sam
O'Brien, Frank O'Brien and J. D. O'Brien, all of
Celina; sixteen grandchildren and Twenty
great-grandchildren.

Indiana Rites Set For Joseph Webb
Funeral services for
Joseph W. Webb, 6931 Meadow Lake, Dallas, who died
in a Bryan, Texas, hospital Friday while on a business
trip, will be held in Vincennes, Ind.
Webb, a native of San Jose, Ill., was
representative here for the Huntington Laboratories,
Huntington, Ind. He came to Dallas when the
company established an office here twenty years ago.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Miss
Margaret Webb, Turlock, Calif.; Mrs. Virginia May,
Park Ridge, N. J. and Mrs. Marsha
Ecktra, San Francisco, Calif.; two sons, Samuel
Webb, Turlock, Calif.; Jack Webb, Park Ridge,
N. J.; one sister, Mrs. Lena Slack, Delavan,
Ill., and four grandchildren.

James C. Fancher - Special to The News
ATHENS, Texas - James C. Fancher, 77, a
retired farmer, died Wednesday at an Athens hospital
after a short illness.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at
the Hassel and Foster Chapel. They will be
conducted by the Rev. Oland Jones and burial will
be in the Meredith Camp Ground Cemetery.
Fancher was born and reared on the farm on Rt. 3
Athens where his father Ei Fancher was born and
reared and had lived there all of his life.
Survivors are his wife; five sons, Reagan Fancher,
Dewey Fancher, Travis Fancher and Herman Fancher
of Athens and Pete Fancher of Tyler; two
daughters, Mrs. H. A. Melton of Eustace and
Mrs. J. A. Pickering of Coalinga, Calif.; two
brothers, W. B. Fancher of Athens and Thurman
Fancher of Fort Worth; three sisters, Mrs. J. L.
Powell of Dallas, Mrs. M. G. Reynolds of
Lufkin and Mrs. Carl Webster of Athens and 11
grand-children and four great-grandchildren.

MORTUARY NOTICE
John A. SAMPLE. Funeral services for
John A. H. Sample, 70, a carpenter, will be held at
10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Southern Crest
Pentecostal Church, Fordham Road at Gladewater.
SAMPLE died Thursday in the Dallas hospital
after an extended illness. He lived at 4618
Garrison.
He was born in Blooming Grove, Navarro County, and
moved from there to Dallas in the early 1920's. He
has been employed as a carpenter by the Lone Star Cement
Company for nearly 20 years.
Survivors are his wife; three sons, A. H. SAMPLE,
and A. L. SAMPLE, both of Dallas, and Master Sgt.
E. A. SAMPLE of the U. S. Marine Corps; four
daughters, Mrs. R. W. CROBER, Mrs. Juanita L.
JOHNSON, Mrs. Edward WORK and Mrs. Sam COPPEDGE,
all of Dallas; four grandchildren and a sister, Mrs.
John H. JOHNSON, Dallas.
The Rev. B. C. NULISCH, pastor of the Southern
Crest Pentecostal Church, of which SAMPLE was a
member, will officiate at services, and burial will e in
Laurel Land Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Raymond JONES, Paul CUNNINGHAM,
Oza CATES, B. L. HARTHCOCK, Irving MURPHY and B.
A. CRABTREE.
