Union Twp. -
NICHOLAS
HAUGHN, farmer, was born Feb. 7, 1845, on his
present farm. His father, Nicholas Haughn,
was a native of Virginia; his mother of Maryland.
His parents were among the earliest settlers of Union
Township. His father entered this land soon after
coming here, it consisting of 140 acres, mostly
improved. He died at the advanced age of 104
years. His mother still lives here and enjoys good
health, being now in her seventy-eighth year.
Nicholas was married, in 1866, to Margaret Conner,
of Pennsylvania. They have six children, viz.:
Mary C., Calvin V., Adaline, Daisy, Maude,
and Arthur.

Neoga Twp. -
ROBERT M.
HUNTER, old settler and farmer, was born in what
was Morgan, but now Noble County, Ohio, Jan. 21, 1830,
son of James and Martha (Marshall) Hunter, is the
third in a family of seven children, and is of Irish
descent. His parents were born in Pennsylvania,
and came to Ohio at a very early day. They died in
that State. The marriage of the subject of our
notice occurred May 13, 1857, to Miss Sarah C. Bailey.
Mrs. Hunter was born in Washington County, Ohio.
They have six children, viz.: Carrie K., Lucy L.,
Nellie, Howard B., Sarah E. and Anna S. Mr.
Hunter came to Illinois in 1858, and settled in
Neoga Township, where he came to Illinois in 1858, and
settled in Neoga Township, where he still lives, and
owns 200 acres of well improved land, located
three and one half miles northeast of Neoga. He is
a Democrat; cast his first Presidential vote for
Buchanan. Mr. Hunter had been Road
Commissioner in Neoga Township six years. They are
members of the Presbyterian Church. He is a
leading farmer and an influential citizen. When he
came to Cumberland County he made settlement on the wild
prairie, and has improved the same.
