from The First 131 Wills of Jefferson County, Kentucky
(Then Virginia)
Sept. 1783 to June, 1813

Abbreviations and explanations:
"a", with numerals, means acres;
"dau" means daughter;
"sis" means sister;
"bro" means brother;
"mar" means married
The first date is that of the making of the will, the second that of the probating.
The family or surname, is omitted when the same is that of the testator, but any mention of heirs, etc., or property not in Jefferson County is given - otherwise all properties and persons were in the said county. 
Residents of Louisville are so given, if given in the will.
Kentucky was originally part of the Fincastle County, Virginia.  In 1790 the area was Kentucky County, Va., and shortly afterwards as Kentucky Territory it had three counties, Jefferson (Louisville, C. H.), Lincoln and Fayette

78.  McMANNIS, John,  a farmer July 28, 1804 Oct. 2, 1805
wife, Ann,
sons John, George, Jas., each to have 50 lbs.;
dau. Margaret Morgan 50 lbs.; step dau. Ruth Williamson 50 lbs.;
step sons Geo. & Moses Williamson a cow.

dau. Nancy Poulter a negro;

daughter Harriett, under 18 to have a negro and $1,000;
distillery owned by me and Samuel Watson to be sold;

81. MERRIWETHER, David Wood, in poor health Dec. 7, 1794 Aug. 4, 1795
To wife Mary one third of estate, balance to children and at her death her share to children; home to be bought for her by executor;
names son Henry Wood Meriwwether and other children under age.
Robert K. Moore indebted to him 150 pounds.

To daughter Ann Hughes, for life, negroes and stock, and at her death to her children. 
Mentions sons William, Valentine and sons-in-law John Hughes and James Meriwether to have the stock;
To six children of my son, David Wood Meriwether, dec., to have negroes;
To children of my daughter, Polly Meriwether, dec., 1 schilling;
To children of my daughter, Elizabeth Meriwether, dec. 1 shilling;
To only child of my daughter Mildred Mitchell, dec.; above grand-children to have no more by request of my husband.

83..MERRIWETHER, William, Sr. Oct. 26, 1790 Feb. 1, 1791
To wife Patty the home plantation, 285 acres;
to son William the plantation bought of A. S. Dandridge, after wife's death, also balance of tract of land of which James has 100 acres;
to son Valentine 203 acres, part of home plantation; to son-in-law James Merriwether 100 acres where he lives on the south fork of Bear Grass Creek bought from Nicholas Merriwether;
to son David Wood Merriwether and son-in-law John Hughes, negroes.

affirms that he was married to his wife Elizabeth to disprove doubts about it;

son Hector Moore; Hector farms to his wife;
son Nimrod, son-in-law Jno. Jones.

to Nathaniel Morgan and his sisters, Eliz. Emmons and Peggy Tyson, 50 lbs. Penn. money;
to Nathaniel the clothes of my late husband, and "his bro. David,"

undivided part for me, of my father's estate to be divid. between my 3 sis., Mary, Matilda, Sarah Ann Jefferies Nicholas; Library of Medical & Historical books to be kept for my bro., Wm. C., but now he shows no disposition to study.

to wife Nancy real estate.

To wife Penelope, tract of land on Chenoweth Run, house, furniture and third of stock for ever, certain negroes and residue of estate during widowhood, this to be divided equally between four children  John, Richard, Abigail and William Oldham, except pre-emption of 400 acres near Bullitt's Lick;
to Elizabeth Homes the 400 acres preemption near Bullitt's Lick.
