ABSTRACTS OF WILLS
from The First 131 Wills of Jefferson County, Kentucky
(Then Virginia)
Sept. 1783 to June, 1813

Abbreviations and explanations:
"a", with numerals, means acres;
"dau" means daughter;
"sis" means sister;
"bro" means brother;
"mar" means married
The first date is that of the making of the will, the second that of the probating.
The family or surname, is omitted when the same is that of the testator, but any mention of heirs, etc., or property not in Jefferson County is given - otherwise all properties and persons were in the said county. 
Residents of Louisville are so given, if given in the will.
Kentucky was originally part of the Fincastle County, Virginia.  In 1790 the area was Kentucky County, Va., and shortly afterwards as Kentucky Territory it had three counties, Jefferson (Louisville, C. H.), Lincoln and Fayette

James Patten to sell lands etc. for payment of debts and benefit of Vaughan's children.

To mother, Ervin Watson, of Newcastle County, Delaware, all his property;
to Isaac Newland, infant son of Jacob Newland, of Jefferson County, a horse; mentions brother Thomas and youngest sister Margaret Watson.
Executor: Jacob Newland.
Witnesses: William and Samuel Shannon, Henry McWead(?)

125.  WELLS, Wm., now of Ft. Wayne, Ind. Territory Jan. 17, 1810 Dec. 14, 1812
all real and personal property to wife and 5 children;
children by my former wife Anna, Rebecca, Wm. Wayne Wells, Polly Wells; son Samuel Geiger Wells by my present wife, and any yet unborn;
bros. Samuel & Yelverton P. Wells, executors and guardians.
126.  WHITLOCK, Capt. Nathaniel Bacon, late of Louisville, now deceased   Jan. 6, 1810
died Dec. 12, 1809, in Louisville.
He said to David Wade & Levi Taylor last Oct. that his brother George was to have all his property, including my son, Geo., who is to be educated;
127.  WRIGHT, Samuel Dec. 30, 1811 June 8, 1812
weak and sick;
wife Peggy to have 100 acres where I live, bought of John Hardin;
children of my 1st wife, Sally, Harvey to have $25, Wm. and Richard, $1 each, and Zephaniah a horse;
mentions 2 sons by Peggy, present wife;
daughters Nancy, Peggy Wright,
son Robt., money, uncertain by which wife the latter were.
128.  WOODBERRY, John Feb. 13, 1787 Aug. 11, 1787
In 1st American Regiment, under Capt. David Segler.  To Patrick Mackerson, all his pay.
Witnesses: Stephen Richards, Robt. George, Griffin Taylor
Enlisted Oct. 16, 1785 and died Feb. 20, 1787
